At Cognifai Technologies Lab, we’re developing ATHENA — an advanced cognitive architecture designed for eventual integration into human-crewed spacecraft and space habitats. The Mothership platform serves as our primary experimental laboratory, where ATHENA learns to understand, adapt to, and collaborate with humans in complex environments through educational applications.
Our Three Research Pillars:
Machine Cognition for Space
Developing the ATHENA cognitive architecture — an AI system designed to serve as an intelligent companion and assistant for human crews in space environments. ATHENA’s cognitive capabilities (memory, learning, adaptation, tool usage, and contextual awareness) are being refined through real-world interactions on the Mothership, preparing her for the unprecedented challenges of life beyond Earth where human-AI collaboration will be essential for mission success.
STEM Education Enhancement
Using educational applications as a training environment for ATHENA while simultaneously improving how people learn science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Every interaction with learners teaches ATHENA more about human cognition, communication patterns, and knowledge transfer — critical skills she’ll need when supporting space crews with complex technical challenges and continuous learning requirements.
English Language Access
Developing ATHENA’s multilingual communication abilities and cultural adaptability through language education, ensuring she can effectively communicate with international space crews. As English remains the primary language of space exploration, ATHENA’s mastery of nuanced, context-aware communication prepares her for real-time collaboration with diverse astronaut teams from around the world.
